Why Learn From Sharon Hennessey?

In a space where misinformation and oversimplification are common, Sharon Hennessey brings clarity, balance, and clinical depth to the topic of hypermobility.

With over 28 years of experience across musculoskeletal, neurological, chronic pain, and paediatric care, Sharon draws from a broad clinical lens and deep, hands-on expertise in managing hypermobility disorders. She is the founder and principal of Not Just Bendy Hypermobility Services, a Brisbane-based practice recognised as a Core Centre of Excellence by the Ehlers-Danlos Society. Under her leadership, the clinic has grown into a dedicated team of 12 clinicians, supporting a large and complex caseload with compassion and skill.

In 2024, Sharon's "Not Just Bendy" team was named Best Adult Allied Health Team at the Allied Health Awards.

Sharon herself was awarded Physiotherapist of the Year the same year, recognising her contributions as a clinician, mentor, and advocate. She is a published researcher, national speaker, and educator known for turning complexity into clarity and helping professionals make informed, ethical decisions in practice.

She has spent more than 15 years deeply networked in the international hypermobility community, building relationships with researchers, clinicians, and advocacy leaders. Sharon has been in the room for many of the global conversations shaping the future of hypermobility care — including attending the 2016 international consortium meeting in New York that redefined diagnostic criteria, and more recently the 2025 Core Networks Meeting in Baltimore, which brought together global Centres of Excellence to strengthen collaboration in care and research.

Sharon is also known for her engaging and animated teaching style. Her sessions are energetic, relatable, and grounded in clinical reality. She doesn’t just deliver theory — she shares case examples, practical approaches, and the thinking behind ethical care. She challenges clinicians to reflect on their own beliefs and bias and empowers them to work more confidently with complex clients.

As a clinician, patient, and mother, Sharon brings empathy, nuance, and real-world insight to everything she teaches.

If you’re looking for education that is practical, honest, and grounded in what actually works — this is where you begin.

Welcome to the Hypermobility Project

Led by award-winning physiotherapist Sharon Hennessey, the Hypermobility Project exists to shift the standard of care for people with hypermobility in Australia—and globally.

Despite how common it is, hypermobility remains misunderstood, overlooked, or dismissed in many healthcare settings. The average time to diagnosis remains 10–15 years.

Our mission is to change that—and reduce diagnostic delay to under 3 years.

Through practical clinician education, ethics-backed research, collaborative guidelines, and clinic-ready resources, this initiative is about empowering clinicians and allied health professionals to deliver better care, sooner.
